21 June: European Music Festival

The summer solstice coincides with the European Music Festival, an event that involves schools, conservatories, hospitals, libraries, theatres, sports centres and prisons, but also open-air venues such as squares and streets in large cities and small towns. The idea was launched in 1982 by the then French Minister of Culture Jack Lang, and since 1985, the European Year of Music, it is celebrated to greet the start of the new season.

CDP supports the training of young talent and opportunities for social inclusion and access to culture, working closely with leading Italian musical institutions such as the National Academy of Saint Cecilia in Rome, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo and the Teatro Massimo in Cagliari. Activities that in 2023 involved over 2,500 young men and women.

A commitment that also translates into financial resources for projects designed to innovate and strengthen the competitiveness of the country's artistic excellence.

An example of this is the 1 million euro CDP loan that will enable the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan to renovate the concert hall named after the composer Giacomo Puccini, which has 380 seats and is used for educational initiatives and public performances, improving its acoustic and functional performance. Founded in 1808, the Conservatory conducts studies and research in a venue of high historical and artistic value that covers 13 thousand square metres and hosts more than 700 students and 250 teachers.
