Giving new life to abandoned spaces, constructing energy efficient buildings and responding to the growing demand for services for the elderly. These are the goals that are being achieved in Montemurro, a village of just over 1,000 inhabitants in the province of Potenza.
The project is an urban regeneration initiative with a positive impact on community life, in step with the demographic changes taking place in Italian society. In fact, over the last two decades the average life span has lengthened and there has been a steady increase in the number of people over 65. However, the offer of services for this age group remain insufficient. The construction of the RSA makes it possible to provide care for elderly people who are both self-sufficient but unable to access rehabilitation independently, and who are no longer autonomous and require out-of-hospital health services.
The residence will have a total of 24 beds, a gym, a medical clinic, a garden and spaces for socialising. Moreover, it will be equipped with energy-saving technologies and a photovoltaic system that will make it an almost zero-energy building.
This operation further strengthens the cooperation with the Montemurro municipal administration, which since the 1970s has included the construction of schools, water and sewerage pipes, energy plants, roads and car parks.
