Castelbuono, Palermo: €1 million for water infrastructure and culture

Investment in smart meters and the removal of architectural barriers in the Civic Museum

Sustainability and social inclusion are the cornerstones of the relationship between CDP and Castelbuono, a town of over 8,000 inhabitants in the province of Palermo. The Group provided €1 million to fund two strategic initiatives for the future of the community.

With the first loan of €700,000, the municipality purchased smart water meters that will improve the quality of service delivery and contain costs.

The advanced monitoring system can be used to locate critical points in the local water system and identify any leaks, enabling timely intervention. The new meters will also serve to raise public awareness about the importance of water conservation, with additional environmental and economic benefits.

The second intervention concerns the Civic Museum in the Castle of Ventimiglia, a symbolic place for the community. Thanks to a loan of €320,000, architectural barriers have been removed to ensure that the cultural space is accessible and usable by all.

Over the years, other projects have been carried out in Castelbuono with the financial support of CDP, always with a cultural and environmental purpose. The municipality has invested in the conservation of the former convent of St Francis, now the Francesco Minà Palumbo Natural History Museum, and in the construction of a composting plant in the Cassanisa district.
